Clean Water
The Esopus creek in Ulster County NY has been at the center of a multitude of conservation and preservation efforts in the past few years.  One of
these has been the turbidity of the water because of water coming through the Shandaken tunnel called "The Portal" bringing water from the Schoharie Reservoir in Green County.  This is part of the New York City watershed system that supplies drinking water to the city.  On December 12, 2003 The Daily Freeman wrote an article on the subject . Attached is a document from the New York State Attorney Generals office on water qualityA document from New York State Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer is a short summary of the resolution to the problem. More on this can be found at www.catskillcenter.org . Another issue to note is the Crossroads Ventures proposed Golf Courses and Condominiums in Pine Hill, NY. This project will cause unnecessary damage to the eco system of the Esopus and surrounding watersheds. Read the documents below to form your own decission.
